For over a decade Eugene Gallagher owned what we all knew as Gallagher’s Irish Pub on Newport Ave. It brought the Irish feel to our little beach town and quickly became a staple. Well with time all things change and with that came the selling of Gallagher’s. The Yeng family, otherwise known as The Noodle House Family, bought Gallagher’s and brought about some welcomed and unwelcomed changes. Like always the “new” Gallagher’s came with a lot of backlash. The feedback wasn’t always positive, but nonetheless Gallagher’s evolved into Gallagher’s 1502 and continued to not let the negative feedback halt any plans for the future.

With that said the name changed officially to The Holding Company or THC 1502. Some of the changes include knocking down two of the walls to have a more open feel to it. The stage has also been opened up so there is a little more room for live music performances where all of Ocean Beach has a spot to support local bands and promote new bands. The Holding Company has opened the skylight to help circulate air as well as adding a powerful, new AC unit. Before, it used to get so hot on the dance floor or even inside the bar, that it would keep people from coming in. Now it is breezy and you don’t feel as though you are in a sweat shop. They installed new tap lines for the beer and have plenty of drink options on hand.

Six out of seven nights of the week there is a live performance and/or DJ. The best part about a majority of the performances is that there is no cover. Covers are only charged when there is a special event, such as a donation to the community. The first week of being open under new ownership there was a fundraiser to help one of our own in the community. Some of you may not know that Former Ocean Beach Woman’s Club president, Melyssa Roark, suffered a blow to her family. Her three year old grandson was bit by a rattlesnake and was hospitalized for quite some time. Due to this the family spent countless hours at Children’s hospital and his parent’s missed work along with the burden of expensive hospital bills. To support one of Ocean Beach’s own, The Holding Company (Gallagher’s 1502 at the time) asked for a $5 donation at the door to assist the family with their bills. Needless to say, over $1000 was raised for the Roark family. Covers will be rare, but the point is that the money is going back whether it be for a community member, our very own Ocean Beach Fireworks, or our famous OB Christmas tree. The community means a lot to the Yeng family so giving back to it is a very easy choice for them.

Those who work at any of the four locations owned by The Yeng’s can only praise how they are treated, the fun they have coming to work, and how everyone is a giant family (hence the Noodle House family). One can also say there is never a dull moment at any of the locations. When there is a Noodle House event you can always assume drinks will be on special, there will be plenty of fun, entertainment will always be provided, and that you will find yourself anticipating the next big event. Of course one can always subscribe on Facebook to the events or follow them on Instagram @thc1502 so a fun opportunity isn’t missed.

Just as a preview to some of the exciting things this summer, The Holding Company will be hosting Christmas in July. The event has been held at Ocean Beach Noodle House Bar 1502 in the past, but this year THC 1502 will host the best “Redneck Christmas in July” on Wednesday, July 20. This evening will be full of fun for all those over the age of

21 when they can see The Jonathan Lee Band perform once again from 9pm to 12pm. This country band will be performing classics and is sure to bring everyone to the dance floor.

If you missed them they performed on the 4th of July at THC 1502 and had the crowd dancing all night. Besides having a live performance you can find Lagunitas doing a tap takeover and keep the Mason jar event. From 7p to 9p the specials will be $1 PB & Jameson whiskey shots, $1 Lagunitas IPA, and $1 well drinks. Christmas isn’t Christmas though without snow or an Ugly Christmas Sweater party. So yes, it is encouraged for all to show up in their finest Ugly Christmas sweater to win the contest. THC 1502 will also have a snow blower set up and deck the place out in Christmas decorations. There will be a donation jar set up for the Ocean Beach Christmas tree fund. The Holding Company will match what is in the jar at the end of the night and donate it. Who couldn’t pass up these drink specials, live band, guaranteed fun, and raising money for our very own Christmas tree?

Besides that event, they will also be hosting PokéCrawl 1502. For all those that have followed Pokémon thru the years or even those that have recently become addicted this is the event for you. Meet fellow enthusiasts, enjoy drink specials at three locations throughout the day and catch those Pokémon. The motto of the game is to “catch ‘em all” so why not get out, socialize, drink if you choose and win prizes while doing it? OB Noodle House will be the first stop, followed by OB Noodle House Bar 1502, and last stop will be The Holding Company. Pokéstop lures will be activated along the way so everyone has a chance to catch wild and rare Pokémon. There will be three Pokémon themed drinks at each location and prizes for “catching” all 9 Pokédrinks or a $100 prize for the best costume. So yes, costumes are encouraged!

If you haven’t yet checked out The Holding Company then hopefully one of the events coming up will bring you in. Dogs are always welcomed, the bar staff is always friendly and entertaining, happy hour is from 3-6, and there is always at least two drink specials each night!
